Swatch and Waveloch introduce to the world for the first time, a man-made wave of epic proportions. Coming to your doorstep is the Swatch Wave Tour 1999 - 2000. Starting in Germany (3-7 August, Munich) then to Italy, before being transported over to Australia to star in the Swatch Wave House Pavillion in Sydney.
Riding the Wave combines the skills of the various board sports, a platform for the board sport athletes to share tricks, hang out and compete together. Yes, it is water and it's a wave but it acts like a mountain. Surfers, skateboarders, snowboarders and wakeboarders can all use there different skills to perform in the wave arena.
This allows boardriders to compete and train in equal conditions, no waiting for the swell, or judgment on which wave to take, the perfect conditions exist for all to go as hard as one wants, endlessly.
Since the late eighties Tom Lochtefeld of Wave Loch endeavored to build the fist man-made artificial wave. His early waves exist in waterparks around the world, however, until he combined with Swatch he hadn't created the ultimate wave machine. Now after hundreds of hours of engineering and testing is the worlds first portable man-made wave that exists.
Starting in Norway as an official training camp ( in a water park) followed by a series of contests in Munich and Italy. Ending in 2000 at Sydney for the grand finale. Involving the worlds greatest boardriders.
Swatch has a tradition of bringing the sport to the people, from freestyle ski jumps & BMX in the late eighties, inner city snowboard jumps in the nineties and now the Swatch Wave Tour in 2000.
The Wave itself contains over 500,000 liters of water, weighs over 1,000 tons and takes 15 tractor trailers to move. Built in Texas and shipped Europe it will be the most impressive city sporting event in history.
Combining the Wave with the best concerts and music is natural. The entire week will consist of public riding, parties, the Pro riders and concerts. MTV the original music channel will provide the bands and Swatch the original in board sports will provide the action!!
A crazy stadium for 2000 people is specially built, athletes and visitors will access the wave with a special Swatch Access. Besides the many VIPs and celebrity guests, members of the Swatch Pro Team will be demonstrating their skills. Surfers; Conan Hayes & Rush Randle, Skaters; Andy Macdonald & Tony Hawk, Snowboarder Steve Klassen and more of the worlds greatest boardriders. But not only Pros - the wave will be open to the public at designated times during the week.
